TWO

I was sitting at my dining table, my chin resting in my left hand while I used my right hand to scroll down the website on my computer.

Nope.

Not good.

Too far away.

Never in my entire life.

I wasn't exactly thrilled by the selection of job openings I could find, but I still kept scrolling down the page. I couldn't keep sulking in my apartment forever. My brain was craving exercise, it prayed for challenges and cleaning my apartment from top to bottom wasn't really a very exciting challenge. More like a very boring way of passing time.

When you start cleaning the joints in the bathroom with a toothbrush, you know you need to find something better to do.

Wait...

This looks exciting.

I clicked on the link to the job opening and the more I read, the more interested I became. Being an office worker, there wasn't really much exciting work out there, but getting a job at the courthouse would definitely be fun. I even started feeling like it would even be more exciting than my former job.

Could me getting fired actually turn into a blessing?

After applying for the job, I made sure to send out my resume to a few other companies. Even if it weren't jobs I really wanted, I just needed something to get me out of the house again. I needed a reason to get up in the morning.

My job hunting was suddenly interrupted my a loud knock on the door. As I walked over, I wondered who it was, but my wonder only got bigger when I opened the door.

A young man- no! Let me rephrase!

A good looking, young, Korean man was standing outside my door, seemingly just as confused as I was myself. He wasn't very tall, but then again, neither was I, so how could I judge someone for their height. He had such a clean and round face, almost like a model, more like a photoshopped model.

"Uhhh..."

I was startled by the man's sudden outburst, it seemed like I had been staring at him for too long without saying anything.

"I'm sorry for my manners," I said in English, figuring he would definitely not know any Danish, "how can I help you?"

He just tilted his head a bit to the side, looking like he only understood 10% of what I just said.

My eyes suddenly took notice of the big suitcase in his hand and I quickly remembered Jae's words from yesterday.

"Ahh! You're Jae's cousin!" I then said. The man looked as confused as before so I walked out of my apartment and across the hall whereafter I pointed at the sign next to Jae's apartment.

"See, Jaehyung Park." The mans eyes fell on the sign and his cheeks immediately turned red as a tomato and he started running his hands together, something Jae had told me was a Korean way of apologizing.

"No no, there's no need to apologize!" I said and gestured for him to stop.

The man then dragged his suitcase across the floor and started ringing the bell to Jae's apartment. As I walked back to my own apartment, I heard how he rang the bell several times and when I turned around, the man was still standing in front of the door, no one coming to open.

"Wait!" I then exclaimed and the man turned to look at me, "weren't you supposed to come at night? Jae is out all afternoon, he won't be home for a few hours." The man looked at me again and I realized I had spoken in Danish, giving him no way of understand me. After apologizing I took out my phone and went on google translate. I didn't care that it would be a weird sentence structure and completely wrong grammar, as long as he understand, it was perfect.

After reading the sentence I typed in, I finally saw a facial expression telling me he somehow understand and I let out a sigh of relief.

"Well, do you want to come inside and wait? It could take a while," I then said in English and gestured for him to come inside my apartment. Even though he looked suspicious for a while, he ended up following me in the end. I showed him where to put his shoes and hang his jacket, whereafter I showed him into my small studio apartment.

"Please take a seat," I said and pointed at one of the chairs next to my dining table. They weren't very comfortable, but it was better than telling this foreign man to take a seat on my bed.

"So, what's your name? Jae didn't tell me," I said and the man looked at me confused again. I tried approaching it in a different way.

"My name," I said and pointed at myself, "Monique Thomsen. Wait should I say my last name, first? Thomsen Monique?" The man looked even more confused and he sent me a funny look as well, while I internally face palmed, knowing how I must've made it even more confusing.

In the end I just let out another sigh, pointed at myself again and said:

"Monique. And your name?" I pointed at the man and tried looking as questioning as a could. Luckily, it seemed like I had finally been able to get through to him as he said:

"Yoongi."

I sent Yoongi a smile and a nod, but then the atmosphere turned awkward again and we both just sat while looking around my boring apartment.

I suddenly noticed how Yoongi had stared at my piano for quite a while and when I turned to look at him, he suddenly pointed at my piano without saying anything.

"Do you play?" I asked, hoping I understood his simple gestures right. Yoongi then again pointed at the piano and then at me.

"Me? Yes I play," I said and nodded along, "although I don't play as much as I used to." I again started blabbering about all sorts of nonsense that Yoongi wouldn't even understand, but I couldn't stand sitting in silence any longer.

"Please," Yoongi then uttered, a little nervous but understandable as he gestured towards the piano.

"What- Do you want me to play?" I said and started playing air piano so he would understand my question. Yoongi nodded and I suddenly felt my heart racing.

"Well... I get a little nervous playing in front of strangers," I said while rubbing the back of my head, "oh... I guess I could. It's better than silence, that's for sure."

As I walked over to my piano I thanked Jae from the bottom of my heart that he made me play the day before. Without that, it would've been over a month since I last touched the keys of my piano.

I stretched out my fingers and took in a deep breath before I started playing the song from the day before. I needed something light to start out with, my hands were shaking way too much from nervousness, for me to play something more complicated.

But once I started, I found myself not willing to stop. I didn't know if it was the fear of being in that awkward silence once again, or if the atmosphere just seemed perfect for music, but my fingers just kept sliding across the piano. Even my heart started to calm down and I dared myself to play something a bit more complicated. Then a bit more, and a bit more, until I didn't even think about what I was playing, I just followed where my heart took me.

I suddenly felt the floor panels underneath me, crack and bend, telling me that Yoongi had gotten up from his seat. And before I knew it, I felt his presence as he was hovering over me, standing right behind me, while i continued playing.

As I tried to keeping my focus on the song, he carefully bend down and followed my fingers' slightest movement with his eyes. I could feel his breath against the back of my head and my heart suddenly started racing again. Why did he have to stand so close? Had he never seen anyone play the piano before?

My hands started shaking again and it became harder to play, but just as I felt like I was about to mess up, our intimate music session was interrupted by the sound of another loud knock on my door.

I stopped playing abruptly and turned around, only to stand face to face with this handsome stranger. His dark brown eyes stared directly into mine and he seemed just as startled, only until we heard another knock on the door and we both turned our attention towards that.

"Let me see who that is," I said and got up from the piano chair, before I walked over to the door.

"Jae, are you already home?" I said and invited Jae to come inside.

"Well I got a message from Yoongi saying his flight was early and that he was invited inside by some strange lady."

"Hey!" I said and looked at Yoongi, feeling a bit offended, "why am I strange? And why am I a lady? He looks older than me." Jae just laughed and then turned towards Yoongi and said something in what I presumed was Korean, since I didn't understand a single word. After he was done talking, Yoongi looked at me before he burst out laughing himself.

"What?" I asked and looked at the two men who were now both laughing, "what did you tell him?" Yoongi then suddenly stopped laughing and looked directly at me as he said something else in Korean.

"He said he's sorry if he offended you," Jae translated for me and I quickly said it was okay and smiled, "by the way, how did you two communicate? You don't know any Korean and his English is so bad I'm actually a bit embarrassed on his behalf."

"Oh... well... you know," I said and started making all kind of weird hand gestured and facial expressions, which only made them laugh out loud again. Yoongi then spoke again and I looked at him with great suspicion.

"He just said something rude again, didn't he?" I asked and Jae let out a slight chuckle.

"Yeah, he said you really are a strange lady." I was just about to object and demand and apology when Jae continued and said something that would soon enough make both my cheeks lit up in a bright red color.

"But he also said that you play the piano very very well."

Hello everyone!

I hope you liked this chapter. I remember feeling very anxious while writing and editing this, because it was a lot more lighthearted than more previous stories, but I received a lot of positive feedback and that made me very happy.
