Chapter 18

"What are we?"

"Yeonjun, I… we…" stuttered Yoo Jin while quickly taking a step away from Taehyun.

"Noona, seriously, what is going on?" asked Yeonjun, repeating himself, "have you gone completely insane?"

"Yeonjun, don't be too hard on her, I was the one who initiated it," confessed Taehyun and took a step forward, but when he saw the burning rage in Yeonjun's eyes, he wondered if he should actually be running away.

"I bet you did, it has been obvious for a long time now, that you like Yoo Jin Noona," said Yeonjun in a firm voice, "but I never imagined my sister would be so reckless and return your feelings."

"Hold up one second, Yeonjun!" said Yoo Jin quickly and gained everyone's attention, "returning his feelings, you make it sound like we are dating."

"Well, aren't you?" asked Yeonjun, "it sure looked like it. I bet he was the one you had a date with just before Winter's break?"

"That… might be true…" said Yoo Jin, "but… I don't know what this is yet, how to deal with all this."

"Are you kidding me, you kiss him, but you don't know what this is?" asked Yeonjun, "and you are okay with this, Taehyun?"

"I…" said Taehyun who felt startled by the sudden question, "I just want Noona to be happy…"

"Oh my…" said Yeonjun with a sigh while rolling his eyes, "mom will have a heart attack if she finds out."

"Yes, and that is exactly why we don't tell her," said Yoo Jin and walked up close to her brother, looking directly into his eyes with a pleading expression, "in fact, we don't tell anyone about this." Yeonjun just stared back at his sister, not saying anything or doing anything, while Yoo Jin held her breath, waiting for a response.

"Please…" said Yoo Jin then, after some time had passed and Yeonjun looked away, feeling her sad eyes getting the better of him.

"Fine, I won't tell anyone," said Yeonjun and Yoo Jin let out a sigh out relief, "but that doesn't mean I support this, whatever this is."
"Thank you," said Yoo Jin earnestly.

"Thank you, Yeonjun," followed Taehyun, "I am sorry we startled you, but I promise you, no matter what this it, it won't interfere with our friendship. Nothing will change."

"Alright," said Yeonjun, although he was struggling to believe those words, "well if you too are done sharing saliva, can Taehyun come back down and finish the game?" Taehyun nearly spoke up, but Yoo Jin beat him to it.

"Actually, I would like to speak with Taehyun alone first," said Yoo Jin and both the boys looked at her, Yeonjun rolling his eyes.

"It has begun," said Yeonjun while walking to the door, "Taehyun, just come down whenever."

"I will make it quick, don't worry," said Yoo Jin while Yeonjun had one leg out of the door already.

"Yeah yeah," was all he said before closing the door behind him, leaving Yoo Jin and Taehyun alone in the bedroom.

The room suddenly seemed a lot quieter and every breath, every heartbeat was echoing, making it impossible for Yoo Jin to speak out. Taehyun tried to keep his head held high, but his eyes would linger everywhere else, except at Yoo Jin. He kept moving his feet back and forth, while Yoo Jin worked up the courage to speak first, her being the one who asked him to stay.

"So, that was pretty awkward," said Yoo Jin with a nervous laugh and Taehyun finally looked at her, the same expression on his face, as on hers.

"Yeah…" said Taehyun, trying to think of something to add, but his mind was blank.

"Taehyun, please don't talk about this to anyone," said Yoo Jin, her voice sounding more serious and firm than before, "as I told Yeonjun, I still don't know how to deal with all this, and if people find out, it will make everything much more complicated." Taehyun nodded along, but his eyes seemed to wander off, no words leaving his mouth.

"What is it?" asked Yoo Jin when she didn't get a response and Taehyun took in a deep breath before speaking up.

"I know I told Yeonjun that all I want is for you to be happy, and that is true," started Taehyun, "but I just don't understand why it has to be so complicated. I like you, you said you like me too, even though I had to drag it out of you, and we even kissed. Isn't that usually what marks the beginning of a relationship?"

"You really are cute," said Yoo Jin and let out a silent chuckle, "and innocent, it is kind of refreshing."

"Thanks, I guess," said Taehyun and scratched the back of his head, a little confused about Yoo Jin's statement.

"I promise I won't tell anyone about us, I don't want to stress you out," said Taehyun and Yoo Jin felt her heart calm down, "but, is it okay for me to call you?"

"Ah... yeah... I guess that is okay," said Yoo Jin and looked away when she felt her cheeks get warmer, "then… I will call you too sometimes…" Taehyun looked at Yoo Jin who was still diverting her eyes, her cheeks a bright red color and he couldn't contain himself any longer. Before Yoo Jin realized what was happening, Taehyun moved forward and enveloped her in his arms, holding her close to his body.

Yoo Jin's heart immediately started racing in her chest, shocked from the sudden reaction from Taehyun, but before she could do anything, he let go of her and moved away, a big smile still plastered on his face.

"What… what was that for?" asked Yoo Jin, her heart still racing, making her stutter through the sentence.

"Nothing," said Taehyun and shrugged his shoulders, "I am just happy." Yoo Jin let out a chuckle, her lips curling into a smile as she looked at Taehyun.

"I should go back to Yeonjun," said Taehyun.

"Alright," said Yoo Jin, "have fun."

"Thanks," said Taehyun and walked to the door. He stepped outside and just before closing the door, he turned his head and looked at Yoo Jin one last time, before disappearing and leaving Yoo Jin behind, alone in her bedroom.

After a few seconds of feeling numb, unable to move, think or do anything overall, Yoo Jin stepped back and collapsed on her bed, staring at her ceiling with her mind going crazy. She let out a sigh and shook her head.

What on earth have I gotten myself into?
